How will the fiscal meltdown affect you?

Fiscal meltdown? You bet, and the effects will probably provide the biggest single headache
for Barack Obama and the team he's busy building for his January inauguration in Washington.
By then, of course, unemployment figures will have continued to rise, particularly in the so-
called developed world, and the knock-on effect will be felt by an ever growing number of
people, with recession threatening to become slump, with different currencies finding their
value falling day by day, and for many people, standard of living will also suffer.

How do we cope with the threat of such disaster? Here we are with Christmas just around
the corner for those of us who celebrate, and the big question may well centre around the
choice between having a good time in 2008 because we don't know when we will be able to
celebrate again in what had become the 'normal' way of overspend on food, drink, presents
and generally having a good time. The next few weeks could well define how we choose our
survival tactics for the next three to five years, and we will all be hoping that Barack Obama
and his advisers find answers to at least help us to weather the storms ahead.

Catching up with the world!

With all the economic bombs dropping on our disparate societies at the moment,
one could be forgiven for wondering why we have elected politicians, after the
mess they have presided over since the present crisis started about two m0nths
ago. The really sad thing is that while they and their friends wring their hands
and talk about 'bail-out' and 'saving the economy', we are all faced with a pretty
dire picture which will last for at least a year.

That's the optimist in me, of course, hoping that the pain will last no more than
twelve months, but the realists will rush in to say we are being stupid if we think
like that. Pain is inevitable, so now we're having to face the reality that it will be
intense pain, and some people will not survive! In the overall picture of things,
that's nature at work, but to suffer painb just because a few uncaring people
were playing games at our expense, is not really going to create happiness in
this topsy turvy world of ours.

Happy New Year!

Belated greetings for the New Year, and I hope you had a wonderful, peaceful and rewarding Christmas break. Here in the UK we have been enjoying a variety of weather conditions, from flooding and flood alerts in some areas to snow in the north and a lot of rain generally.

2008 promises to be an exciting year, and one big talking point has been the rapid growth of interactivity on the internet, and the many ways in which that is affecting us all. The newspaper industry for example, is already having to move smartly to avoid complete meltdown, as the traditional news gathering and printing is having to move with the times, and altho many of them had developed a web presence, they are now having to re-think their strategy, because of the growth of instant reporting by you and I, complete with stills or video from our mobile phones!

Biggest joke about that development is that it gives us a chance to do our own thing, with the obvious question....will we take the chance to carve out our own niches? That could well be the greatest challenge, because make no mistake about it, there will be no way to monitor the equal opportunities or lack of same, when comparing the digital newsroom with the old fashioned office hierarchy that maintained, in the UK anyway, a decidedly white exclusive club atmosphere in just about every section of the media.

The world at large will also be watching the long drawn out happening which is the American Election Roadshow, and there's a big question for the American voter, with Barrack Obama looking a likely guy to be the first black American president. Yes, yes, I know he won't be the first US president to be threatened by rednecks armed with guns, but it will be interesting following the action as it unfolds. Does it make you wince when you read or hear about the MILLIONS they are spending on their campaigns?

More on that in time, and do let me know your thoughts on anything here!
Walk good.....

Doesn't time fly when you're busy?

It used to be said 'doesn't time fly when you're having fun' but looking back now, that was obviously at the stage of life when fun was Numero Uno priority! As we get older, time flies more and more quickly, or so it seems, and it may well be because we keep telling ourselves about all the things we should be doing, should have done, need to do, with the result that we never get around to doing all the things we really should!

If all that sounds like an excuse for not posting in seven days.....sorry but it's a fact of life. The priority was re-writing and making a proper web site so that my link to and from this blog would make sense, instead of being a one-way trip. If you can't wait to check it on my Profile page, the link is http://www.sydsbiz.com/.

No I am not a specialist in writing HTML code, but these days there are an increasing number of programs with which you can construct a web page, not least being the BLOG and LENS links which offer to do all the technical stuff for you.

Bottom line, however, is that you still have some work to do. Using a program like NetObjects Fusion still meant going thru their instructions, complete with the very useful section where you build a site in ten minutes.....to see how the various components work together! Using this blog editor involves composing, previewing and making corrections before publishing, so everything has a price, even if only the time some of us have a lot of. Hopefully I can now organise my routine to ensure a more regular posting.

While you're waiting for that.....do let me know if the word XELODA means anything to you.

One small step.....

Starting a blog is, I guess, a bit like taking your first step.....not as a baby, but at that advanced dance class you were pressured into attending, so that you wouldn't look a complete prat on the dance floor at your first prom.

Happy days....happy nights....happy memories, but today this is just to start filling the space, to start a dialogue with whoever decides that interaction is worth the time it takes to read, react and compose something in response. This would be a piece of cake for the hardened diarist, accustomed as he or she is to the discipline of writing their thoughts day by day, probably at a fairly set time as well. For the rest of us, it becomes a double challenge, asking for regular input as well as sensible debate or comment.

Where do we start? My blog title will reign supreme, allowing me the freedom to take on the world and his wife, to ride with Don Quixote tilting at the windmills of life, to voice my frustrations at man's inhumanity to man, whether he's wearing trousers or a skirt, and you will hopefully play your part, making your comments of righteous indignation, laughing agreement or even, wonder of wonders, structuring debate from your own point of view.
